Born in Oregon, Siemens lives and works between the maritime town of Camogli, Italy and an island off the coast of Maine. As a self-taught painter, Siemens’s work pulls from individual psychologies that expand to otherworldly environments, all moved by an unknown imbalance. A background of swirls is interrupted by juts of impasto, which are then leveled with graphic constraint. For the viewer, the paintings evoke the familiar, becoming eerily unsettling as this familiarity is overturned. Ultimately, Siemens’s paintings call into question our foundation and even the role of the viewer.
Formerly with Kate Eric, Siemens has been reviewed and featured in ARTnews, Art in America, San Francisco Chronicle and other publications. Kate Eric exhibited in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the United States, culminating in a solo exhibition at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in 2012. Their artwork is also included in numerous public and private collections including the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
